Gijs Kreutzkamp

Gijs Kreutzkamp (1997) graduated in Comic Design in 2020 at ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in the city of Zwolle (NL) where he now lives and works as comic artist and illustrator. From a young age he was fascinated by (adventure)novels, westerns and history, especially the so-called Golden Age of Piracy. The suspense, sensation, exotic locations and colorful figures which are linked to these fascinations still inspire him every day. Besides this he is very much fascinated by the so-called “New Age of Sail:” the efforts to make cargo and passenger shipping more environmentally friendly by means of (re)introducing sailing vessels to the equation. His sources of inspiration are both numerable as well as diverse, including books from authors such as Stevenson, Conrad, Portis and deWitt to genre movies; from the works of comic artists such as Pratt, Eisner, Hubbinon & Blain to the current climate crisis. Gijs hopes to give something back with his work to the medium of comics, which up until this day still means so much to him.
