Do you have a portfolio that needs fine-tuning? Are you looking to submit your graphic novel for the Small Press Award but you’ve got the feeling your book isn’t quite ready? Meet the Editor at Cross Comix Festival 2026 and let professional editors help you out!

This year’s editors are The Bries Space, Zone 5300, Wobby Club and Pulp de Luxe – four seasoned professionals ready to review your work. You can sign up for one of two time slots, during which you’ll meet two or more editors for a short review of your portfolio. And who knows – your work might be closer to publishing than you think!

Date: Friday September 11

We have two timeslots available: 12:00 to 13:00 or 16:00 to 17:00.

Please think carefully about the type of feedback you’d like to get. Time is limited, and you’ll get the most out of it if you come prepared.
If you are no longer able to make it after being selected for the slot, please make sure to let us know so we won’t waste the editors’ time.
You won’t be able to choose a specific editor for your review, but you’ll be able to meet multiple editors in a session so chances are you’ll get the feedback you need.

Deadline for entry is Sunday September 6th, after which we’ll finalize and announce the list of participants. We’ll contact you in the following week with practical details about your participation.

Closed /Open Call: Volunteers

We need you! We are looking for volunteers on 10, 11 and/or 12 at the Cross Comix Festival 2026 in Rotterdam!

If you’re excited about visual storytelling and other arts, this is a great opportunity to help and get involved. We need help one day before the festival & during the opening evening (10 of september) and during the festival (11 & 12 september). You will work in shifts of 5 hours a day. Let us know in the form below when you are availible and we will get in touch with you soon!

You will help our team out with the following tasks:

– Setting up and dismantling exhibitions
– Setting up and dismantling the Makers Market
– Making and installing signs
– Preparing goodie bags for artists & speakers
– Helping out at the Vegan food corner (for artists & speakers)
– Directing visitors & artists to the right spot
– Ticketing at the entrance
– Assisting before/during/after (book)presentations
– Assisting at the makersmarket
– Helping out the audience with directions to certain areas like the presentation rooms, bathroom, elevators and the food corner
– Selling zines at our Zine Kiosk
– Helping out with all unexpected things that can happen during a festival

Requirements: Note that you have to be atleast 18 years old to be able to volunteer at our festival, if you are younger, we are happy to welcome you in the future when you are 18!

Closed / Open Call Book Presentations

Have you released a new graphic novel this year that you would like to present at our festival? Then this is open call is for you! We are looking for artists who want to present their book during Cross Comix 2026.

The presentation can last up to 40 minutes, followed by a signing session of approximately 20 minutes. This is all for free: we do not charge you a fee to participate. Please note that places are limited.

To be eligible for participation you(r work) must adhere to the following guidelines:

Your book must have been released in the past six months.
It must be available for purchase during the festival, and preferably before the festival as well.
Self-published and home-printed books are welcome, provided you can bring enough copies to sell during the festival.
Your presentation can be in Dutch or English. The primary language of the festival is English, so please keep this in mind when preparing your presentation.

The deadline for applications is the 30th August 2026. After the deadline, we will make our final selection and inform you. After that, we will contact you again within a week with more practical information about your participation.

CLOSED / open call Makers Market 2026

The Cross Comix Makers Market features more than fifty makers, artists, and publishers. For two days, artists and collectives can sell their work, meet fellow creators, and enjoy the festival atmosphere in the heart of Rotterdam.

This open call is currently closed. The deadline to apply was July 5th. Makers who applied can expect an email with the results in the week of July 20th!

Closed / Open Call Zine Kiosk 2026

For Cross Comix 2026 we are looking for the most beautiful, groundbreaking and compelling zines, art books and small press from all over the world.

Our festival by and for lovers of visual storytelling will take place on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th of September, in Rotterdam (NL). The Zine Kiosk is the first thing you see when you enter. It is where we showcase and sell the freshest, most amazing and innovative creations by makers and independent publishers from all over the world.

All zine-makers and independent publishers outside of the Netherlands can apply.

Open Call Small Press Award 2026 (closed)

Since 2022, Stichting Beeldverhaal Nederland, organizer of Stripdagen Haarlem and Cross Comix, have presented the Small Press Award (SPA) for the best, most beautiful, or most original small press publication of the year. Submissions are now open for the 2026 edition.

What can you win?

The winner receives a cheque for €1,500 and will be invited to curate an exhibition at Cross Comix 2027. The two runners-up will each receive a cheque for €500.

What is Small Press?

Small press is inextricably connected to the world of graphic storytelling. They’re independently published comic editions, often beautifully designed and produced in limited print runs. Compared to publications from established publishers, they give creators even more freedom to express their own unique signature, and they are wonderful examples of the versatility of the medium of comics.

Small Press publications can be handmade or produced in unusual formats, making them true collector’s items. Many comic artists have begun their careers with small press publications.

About the submissions and the award ceremony

On the weekend of 30 and 31 May 2026, Stripdagen Haarlem will once again take place in Haarlem, featuring a wide range of exhibitions, performances, talks, workshops, and other activities.

The SPA winner will be announced during the opening of Stripdagen Haarlem on 29 May.

Submissions can be entered until 3 May. On 15 May we will present the longlist, and after careful deliberation the shortlist will be announced on 22 May.
