On the afternoon of Friday, September 12th, Aimée de Jongh and Vera van Wolferen will explain their working approaches. Aimée will explain how she tackles large projects, such as her graphic novel adaptation of Lord of the Flies, and sometimes involves collaborators. Vera van Wolferen will discuss the creation of her acclaimed animation Down in the Dumps and how she handles ever-changing circumstances.

Aimee de Jongh (1988, she/her) is an award-winning graphic novel author and animator from the Netherlands, whose books are published in more than 30 countries. With roots in the Dutch-Indies, history, migration and human relations are recurring topics in her work.

Vera van Wolferen

In her The Hague studio Vera van Wolferen handcrafts animations, illustrations and paper art pieces, such as the trophy that belongs to the Small Press Award. She gives workshops, artist talks and guest lectures. She has worked with brands like Facebook, Heineken, Jo Malone, Bosch, Xenos & Ortec.

Nova de Hoo is a comic artist who wants to preserve the traditional elements of fun and irony in her comics, whilst also addressing social issues with care and sensitivity. She knows this is quite a difficult cocktail, and she doesn’t think she’ll ever fully get there!
