Cross Comix teams up with the Comics Studies Group of the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis for an academic discussion about feminist comics: how do they use the medium to get the message across? Some work by prominent feminist comic authors will be discussed.
Victor van Doorn, comics researcher active in The Hague and Leiden; Lauraine Meyer, author of Feminists in Progress; and Lucie Morel, author of Toc Toc and PhD candidate at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, will take part in the discussion, moderated by Dr. Erin La Cour (VU).

Lauraine Meyer is a French graphic novelist and illustrator based in the Netherlands. She studied illustration and graphic design in Paris. Committed feminist, she questions gender norms and sexism with humor and a colorful and joyful style. Her main goal is to make complicated subjects more digestable in order to be accessible to everyone.

After a career as art director in advertising, she published Feminists in Progress in 2022, Moi, j’aurais pas fait comme ça in 2024 and Mecs in Progress in 2025. Feminists in Progress is available in Dutch.
Lucie Morel is a French comics artist who has lived with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder since childhood. In her work, she explores ways of representing and making visible the condition that distorts her perception of reality. A graduate of the École Supérieure d’Art de Lorraine, she has exhibited her work in various galleries, mainly in Paris and Metz.

She is currently working on a practice-based PhD at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, focusing on Graphic Medicine and the representations of mental illness and psychological disorders in comics. TOC TOC, her first autobiographical comic about living with OCD, was published on 5 September 2025.
